My dad was JP’s batman, when he served with the 110 East Lancs Army Troops Company Royal Engineers, before moving to Bomb Disposal. My dad wanted to go with him to Bomb Disposal, but JP said no, on the grounds that my dad had children. They were born and bred in the same part of Manchester, both had an engineering background and clearly got on well. My dad spoke about JP often until his death in 1999. Thank you for your sacrifice JP.
