Son of Arthur and Hilda Gibbs: Husband of Nora Alice Edith Gibbs of Saint James End, Northampton. Died on the 15th April 1941. Aged 28. Buried at Dallington Cemetery, Northampton. Division FI Grave 5320. Incident. On the 15th April 1941 a shaft being dug to recover what was later found to be a 250kg bomb fitted with both a 17 and 17a fuse partially collapsed, this Lieutenant I.L. Hoare was completely buried. Sergeant T. Taylor, Corporal Bardley and two sappers extricated thier officer before he suffocated. He was taken to hospital. Sergeant Taylor continued the task and uncovered the bomb. Lieutenant Hoare discharged himself from hospital to defuze it, whilst carrying out this task it detonated killing both men.
